    That’s probably not what you want to do.

    A nameserver is simply a way for the company that has registered your domain to know where your hosting actually is.

    For example, I use DreamHost to register domains, and WebFaction to host websites. When I register a new domain on DreamHost, I have to set its nameservers to WebFaction’s nameservers. (Which are ns1.webfaction.com, ns2.webfaction.com, etc. Most hosts have a similar setup.)

    Keep in mind that DNS takes a while to propagate—that is, it takes a while for that record change to travel all over the entire internet. I’ve seen DNS propagate in as little as 30 minutes ( ), but it can take 24-48 hours.
