    I don’t think there’s any Javascript included that would notify the user right away. You’ll just notice that some characters behave weirdly.

    The only way the visitor’s browser might be made aware of an intrinsic problem would be if you changed the declared character encoding in the html head, but that would kill characters in your pages, at least if your website would try to send any character outside of the basic table, e.g. – instead of –.

    If you want to limit the allowed input, then you will need to check what you receive from the user and display a warning if things aren’t allowed.
