    The ‘template-tags’ file is not a template file and cannot be overridden by copying it into your Child Theme folder (and replicating the directory structure). That method only works for templates like ‘header.php’.


    So, I guess the correct way is to put redefined functions into functions.php?

    Yes, considering it can be overridden that way. If it can’t then you might have to look deeper as to how the function is loaded in the the parent theme; i.e. through a hook.
