The “issue” (it’s not really an issue, it’s intentional) is with the Jetpack plugin. It needs to load pixel.wp.com in order to register the hit on their remote server which stores the traffic data. You can easily verify this by disabling Jetpack, you will see an immediate and noticeable speed increase on your site.

I’m trying to find a way to disable the site stats part of it while retaining the other useful functions eg. Twitter auto-post. I’m coming up empty so far
