    I would also grab the .htaccess file and the wp-config.php file in root of site. Also, it is very possible other site related (not default WP) folders/files may exist in root, especially on older installations.

    The reason one does not need to manually backup the wp-admin or wp-includes folders is those folders can easily be recreated from a download of the up to date version of WP. The other files in root that are apart of the WP download should be also be used to recreate. The download will not contain a wp-config.php file or a .htaccess file.

    Always make sure the site is updated to latest prior to taking the files backup.

    Also always make sure the database backup is from a time right after you made the site up to date and did the files backup.
