Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

as I cant seem to log in with the same username and password that I use to access my dashboard and manage my site.

https://wordpress.org/ is merely the development and support website for the WordPress software that your website is running. It also offers theme and plugin downloads. It has no connection to your account on your website and is not supposed to.

I had this problem over a week ago but I presumed it must have been a technical difficulty on wordpress side

WordPress does not host your website, you would have set up WordPress yourself on your own host, or the host would have done it for you. Any service difficulties are something you would need to talk to your host about.
