    Did you originally install WP using your host’s one-click installation feature? These host versions are often hacked to best suit the host’s environment. It often means they manage updates, which could be the cause of faulty updating. It may be something your host needs to resolve.

    You could try getting away from the host installed environment by manually updating the WP files. (Or just try it anyway for no particular reason, it might help) That may not be enough to get away from the host’s version though. There could be entries in the DB that tie your installation back to the one-click install version of the host. You could also try moving your data to a new manually created DB, but that may not help.
