Private posts and categories no longer work, by bellisin

    Good day.

I am part of a not-for-profit classic car club for Bristol owners. I built a WordPress site for the club a few years back. The key feature of the site is that it is a co-operative pool of information on how to keep these wonderful cars on the road, visible to members only.

    This is did by:
    1. Creating a post for each article
    2. Making it private
    3. Allocating one or more categories to each post
    4. Creating a custom role “member” that has permission to read private posts
    4. Adding pages with links, buttons to menu that filter on a category.

This has worked wonderfully for a very long time. However, now logged in “members” selecting a category only see public posts. Private posts remain hidden?

I have checked the role permissions and “read private posts” is approved. Indeed all “read” permissions are approved.

If I log in as a test “member” I can see these private posts if I go to the dashboard so I think it has something to do with the use of categories with private posts?

I see there is a new feature “topics”. Could this be the clue?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    PS.

I use “User role editor” 4.40.
