WordPress fix Footer links disabled in Twenty Seventeen

Footer links disabled in Twenty Seventeen, by BizWriter

Customizing my 2017 footer and discovered that the url links in both footer widgets and urls for social media icons (except mail) are disabled (when I hover over any of those a ban-icon appears). Tried removing all custom CSS but did not make any difference. Any ideas what would cause this and a fix for it?? Thanks!!
