External images don’t load after switch to SSL, by cpurrin1

I recently switched my site to https and now some of my embedded images fail to display in old and new posts. Here’s an example of the embed code:

    <a title="Phidippus princeps" href="http://photography.colinpurrington.com/spiders/e10bad59b"><img src="http://photography.colinpurrington.com/img/s6/v142/p280679835-4.jpg" alt="Colin Purrington Photography: Spiders and ticks &emdash; Phidippus princeps" width="800" height="533" /></a>

Instead of the image, just link appears.

But in other instances an external image displays normally. I think in these situations the image is on an https site.

I’ve poured over forums and have tried various SSL media fixer plugins, but nothing seems to work. If I turn off my SSL, the images display just fine (of course).

My site also seems to switch in and out of https, so if the images load when you look at linked page, I’m sorry. Those problems are probably related …

I’d be grateful for any help.
