WordPress Speed Up Service | WordPress Website Maintenance Packages Appearance > editor broken., by IAmediaworks “Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.” Yes, I know technically, it’s not broken. I’ve scoured dozens and dozens of posts dealing with this problem, so I understand what was changed. But I just wanted to pipe up and add my two cents’ worth. I’ve been developing WP sites for the better part of ten years now – and being able to go into a child theme from within the dashboard and tweak the functions.php file, or the CSS in a plugin, is a central part of the work I do nowadays. Hamstringing that, and then saying that this wasn’t what the editor was intended for, or that people might whitescreen their sites… well, I don’t agree. I think a popup that asks if you’re sure you want to do this is a happy medium. But forcing advanced users to open up file manager or an ftp client to add 5 lines to a file, just because someone might break their site? Well, it’s just plain silly. If people decide to go under the hood of their car and mess with the wires, then they oughta know what they’re doing. Babyproofing the editor just hampers those of us who use WP day in and day out. PLEASE – I’m begging you. The old editor was great – please let us edit our files? Thanks for listening! Mark Appearance > editor broken.
