Can’t install into root directory, by jerrypettit

Long-time user–but inactive for many, many years. I have a blog at a SUBDIRECTORY of http://www.jerrypettit.com findable at http://www.jerrypettit.com/blog.

NOW I want to host a different site at the root: http://www.jerrypettit.com itself.

I’ve downloaded and unzipped and am trying to upload the consequent files via Filezilla to the root site of http://www.jerrypettit.com (and I’ve made the necessary database changes to wp_config). It LOOKS like things are transferring, but I don’t see the files in the root directory–but Filezilla tells me transfer went okay–and no change is being made to the “placeholder” screen I put at http://www.jerrypettit.com years ago. What the heck am I doing wrong?
