Both VirtueMart and WooCommerce is free to install and easy to use. When Virtuemart owns free and professional CMS (Content Management System), WooCommerce is available for shop facilities on WordPress website.

Although launched 5 years earlier, VirtueMart seems to have gone through its peak and decrease dramatically in these years. Meanwhile, WooCommerce- a new WordPress plugin quickly spreads and becomes one of dominated shopping cart solution. It still keeps uptrend even in the dynamic market place. Below comparisons explain this trend:

VirtueMart has different good points to build your shopping cart:
    • If coming to layout, Joomla! platform offers more options and extensions
    • Because of CMS, you can create variously rich content for your site
    • The Joomla! platform offers a lot of (non-web shop related) extensions
    • A community can be built around the shop with VirtueMart
However, small community with few programmers is one of the drawbacks of VirtueMart which may just give little support for users.

Meanwhile, WooCommerce owns much more rich features and can fix the weakness of competitor:
    • In term of usage, WooCommerce wins with its coverage in more websites categories included in Business & Industry, Shopping, Arts & Entertainment, Internet & Telecom and 238 other categories.
    • Because of WordPress plugin, WooCommerce is easy to use and users dont take much time to make familiar with.
    • With its customization, users can download about 2000 different themes in https://wordpress.org/themes/. With each selected theme, users can availably change pre-set CSS styles and color themes, tweak the code and experiment special features.
    • Its flexibility allows categorizing products and giving sale prices and independent attributes
    • WooCommerce provide some analytic tools to calculate daily sales, total sales, measure the statistics for different customers individually, follow the number of order, and determine change in trend. It is helpful for managers to measure the metrics of their site to improve sales.
    • And then, WooCommerce community really defeats VirtueMart. It has millions of users and thousands of active members on hand to give advices for people who have problem in setting WooCommerce up.

Don’t ignore trend, because trend comes up when users really satisfy with it. WooCommerce deserves to be trusted platform for your online store, which attracts more customers and brings more conversion for your business.

If you are using VirtueMart, Litextension offers you with VirtueMart to WooCommerce migration tool. Its so easy and pro for you to export from VirtueMart to WooCommerce successfully.

Nice post. WooCommerce is indeed easier to use and customize. It should be noted, also, that the cart inherited all the advanced SEO capabilities from WordPress, so the exposure potential is great.

As for the transfer to WooCommerce, users can also use Cart2Cart - it's a web based tool, that doesn't require any downloads - filling a few fields is enough to make the switch happen.

Additionally, we provide free demo transfers to clients' WooCommerce stores. They allow to move a limited number of entities in no more than 30 minutes.
