There have been times when there has been no keyword actively searched for on many of my content. I normally wrote for my own-self and there were posts on a personal blog where there was no keyword research involved. I wrote whatever I liked.

Today, though I dont have any active blogs, but yes, today, if you are writing for professional gains, you must always go for the right keywords and there must be a right balance between the keywords and the content.

Content always matters when it comes to blogging and I don't quite agree that the importance of keywords has decreased through the years. Keywords drive your audience to your site and content is what keeps people always asking for more. These are the key elements that you should not get lazy in taking care of when you own a blog.

I would agree with you a little bit on decreased importance of keywords. The quantity of keywords in your posts does not matters as much as it used to in the past. I do not focus a lot on stuffing keywords in to the post but I do my research on keywords before writing a post and make sure the keyword is present in the URL and as well as the Title of the Post.
