    Competitor analyse means checking out your competitors website's content, backlink, tags (title, meta, etc). This is very important because it will give an idea on how hard or easy it is to get ranked in first page of google (no once cares about bing :p). When I create a website/blog, the first thing I do is search my keyword in Google then check the websites in the first page. If all of them have optimised on page seo and good backlinks I just move on the next keyword. Competitor analysis in SEO is very important, if you skip it you could waste lots of money and time.

    Competitor Analysis will help you backwards engineer what your competitors are doing to rank as well as they do. It involves looking at lots of different data points to see if there are any common traits among those ranking on the first page of Google for a list of keywords you are trying to target.

    Once you find the sites you are trying to emulate, then you can start looking up all the data related to them, such as how popular they are on social media, the overall size of their site, the types of content they are writing about which rank well, how their site is structured, and much much more.

    There are many paid services such as Moz.com which can help with this, as well as software such as Screaming Frog SEO Spider, Xenu Link Sleuth, OpenLinkProfiler.org and more.

    One thing I will give you a heads up on though, with relation to examining your competitors backlinks, is that there is no one tool which will give you a 100% picture of what backlinks a site has. All the tools out there generally return different results from one another. So Moz.com may show a site has 100 backlinks, but OpenLinkProfiler.org may show a site has 30 backlinks, and the backlinks they both list may be entirely different. They all have different methods of gathering this data, and none of those methods are perfect.

    Competitor analysis means if you targeting a particular keywords related to your business, as a competitor you should check which website is ranking for each and every keywords, through that you can come to know the competitor and you can check their backlinks and for you it come to know how they doing seo to rank top in the search engine..

    If we do competitor analysis in a proper way by using different tools, then it helps to know where own website rank on Google and where we lagging from competitors. We can easily analyze the minor SEO techniques used to rank the website in search results or may help in generating good revenue.
